My Six Year Old's Take on George Bush the Big Fat Liar

Sun Apr 27, 2008 at 05:52:04 PM PDT

So, from the other room I hear my 6 year old and my 9 year old having some kind of discussion. These words float from the mouth of my youngest, who is in kindergarten:

"George Bush is a big fat liar. He lied."

OK, I agree. But I'm kind of curious to know a little more about my youngest child's take on geopolitics and the nature of presidential mendacity.

So, I ask him to come over and tell me what he knows.

His explanation below the fold.

The conversation went like this:

Me: "So, what were you saying about George Bush?"

Six-Year-Old-Son: "He's a liar. A big fat liar. He lied to start a war."

Me: [Wondering where on earth he could have gotten this] "Oh, how's that?"

SYOS: "He said that the North had weapons of mass destruction, and that they would kill everyone in the South before we could kill them."

[I'm thinking "uh-oh."]

Me: "The North? What war is this?"

SYOS: "The silver war. The one with the slaves. That George Bush started."

Me: "The Silver War? Do you mean the Civil War?"

SYOS: "Yeah, that's it. And Abraham Lincoln died. And they put pennies on his eyes after he was dead."

Me: "Pennies? They did?"

SYOS: "Yeah, cause his face is on the penny."

At that point my wife started laughing, which put a stop to things.

I'm pretty sure that this is a remnant of February's Black History month, where we had to help him write an essay on a famous African American. About halfway through the essay we had to take two steps back and explain to him what "African American" and "Black" is. Anyway, during that time they learned about the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln. And now he must be picking things up from my wife and I and combining them.

At least he got one important lesson out of the whole thing. Tomorrow we'll talk about how George Bush lied us into the Spanish-American War.
